Statistics South Africa estimates that approximately 18 percent of the children living in this province are orphans and many more are vulnerable. Childline Mpumalanga aims to help restore and transform communities, facilitate the development of strong, community-based support systems for children affected by HIV and AIDS with the hope of assuring a secure and healthy future for the Orphaned and Vulnerable Children (OVC) living in the province.
Funding from the American Presidents Emergency Fund for Aids Relief (PEPFAR) will be available from October 2008 to implement the programme. Childline Mpumalanga is in process to identify 5 areas where the need of children affected and infected by HIV and Aids are high and developing relationships with existing Government and community structures in these areas to start planning the implementation of the planned relief programme
